Question: What is the difference between Essay Advantage and other bar review courses?
Answer: Traditional bar review courses focus on teaching substantive law, practicing for the Multistate Bar Exam, and providing some exposure for the written portion of the exam. Essay Advantage focuses exclusively on teaching you how to write truly exceptional answers for the Florida Bar Exam. During the course, Essay Advantage will teach you how to identify the subject being tested and outline an answer. It will even teach you how to write an answer if you are unsure of the correct statements of law.
Question: Is Essay Advantage included in my regular BAR/BRI tuition?
Answer: No. Essay Advantage is a supplemental course designed to provide additional support for those students who want more direction, instruction, and feedback than they would otherwise receive in the traditional BAR/BRI Bar Review course. Moreover, the course was originally conceived to assist students who are not strong writers and those who are at risk of not passing, i.e., those of you who are not in the top third of your class. Gradually the course grew to serve all students who are genuinely concerned about passing---the first time.
Question: What if I have questions?
Answer: Because the format of the course is structured for maximum effectiveness, productivity, and efficiency, we simply cannot accommodate questions during the lecture. In the alternative however, the lecturer is generally accessible during the breaks and after class. You can also call the office on our toll-free number at (800) 777-3926 or (312) 894-1689 and speak with any of our Essay Advantage attorneys or staff members at any time.
Question: If I cannot make the class, can I have a friend tape it?
Answer: Like all bar review lectures, the lecture is copyrighted and cannot be duplicated in any form or fashion. Also, because the class is much more interactive than regular bar review lectures, your attendance is necessary to properly derive the intended benefit of the Essay Advantage method. During the course you will write actual answers and practice numerous exercises to strengthen your writing. Doing the questions on your own will not achieve the desired results.
Question: Why should I spend the additional money when my other bar review course provides me with essentially the same information?
Answer: While it is true that your traditional bar review course will provide you with some of the same information, it will not provide what Essay Advantage does. No other course offers the in-depth writing instruction, concise substantive tips, and individual feedback as Essay Advantage. If you are confident in your writing abilities, as demonstrated through outstanding law school grades, you may not need Essay Advantage. On the other hand, even top students stumble on the Florida Bar Exam because of how different the format is from your traditional law school exams. Through our program you will build your confidence and be able to write answers that truly stand out from the rest.
Question: Why can't the course be broken into more than one day?
Answer: You have only a limited amount of time to study. The course is very intense and exposes you to what it will feel like to sit and focus for a full day during the actual bar exam.
Question: How realistic is the feedback I will receive?
Answer: Your essays are reviewed by actual bar exam experts, i.e., people who take bar exams for a living and who write and edit substantive legal treatises. They pride themselves on providing brutally honest feedback that is concise and to the point. Their goal is simple (as is ours)… provide you with the most instruction, guidance, and support possible, so you will be able to handle the bar confidently and competently.
Question: Can I wait and enroll at the door on the day of the course?
Answer: You might be able to, but our rooms were filled to capacity at the last course and we typically do not have more than a few extra sets of material at each location. If you try to sign up at the door, we'll be glad to have you, if there is room, but be warned that there is a very real chance that you will be turned away.
